Local Gigs
Skye started her professional performances in the English scene in Singapore at a number of hotel lounges, pubs and clubs. In February 1999 on the eve of Chinese New Year, she entered into the Canto scene starting at a popular club in Marina South named ‘Canto’. Other Canto venues she performed in include Devil’s Bar on every Sunday (2004), Black Velvet (2001), Beyond 97 (2002), Heaven & Earth (2004) and Paradigm (2004).
September 2006 saw her join the newly formed St James Power Station, the biggest ever entertainment complex in Singapore. For over 5 years, she performed as a resident artist in the Mando club there named “Dragonfly”, wowing audiences with her Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Korean and Japanese repertoire and also wrote various scripts, produced, directed and did vocal arrangements for some of the shows and resident artists’ showcase concerts including her own. Her then boss Dennis Foo refers to her as ‘effectively bilingual’ and 'The Zoe Tay of St James Power Station'. Under the St James group, the former queen of St James also made frequent appearances at The Bellini Grande, Bellini Room, Firefly and The Wine Bar & Bistro.
These days, she mostly performs for Weddings & Private Events and various venues around Singapore. Follow her on her Facebook page for upcoming performances..
Recordings
She recorded her debut album Skyewood in 2000 which was released in China where she made appearances, did the rounds of radio and TV interviews and performed at various venues and its single ‘Broken String’ charted at #2 for several consecutive weeks.
In 2001, she was signed over to USA & UK based management company Showcase Management International (SMI), where in 2002, she had the privilege to work with producer/songwriter Kris Holland and songwriters Tami Holland and Andy Wilcocks – (Valen Hsu, Shino, Kelly Chan) in the UK and 2003, in LA with producer/songwriter Joe Solo (Macy Gray) and his co-writers, Micheal Caruso (Vanessa Williams), Amy Powers (Barbra Streisand), John Ingoldsby (Madonna), Tamara Champlin (Elton John, Chicago) and Deanna Dellacioppa (VH1) working on material specifically written for her.
She recorded an original solo song “Wo Zhi Xiang Nian” (Wu Jiaming & Adam Lee – guitar) and a group song with 3 other artists from Dragonfly “Dao Shu San Miao” (George Leong) in Dragonfly’s Compilation album in 2007.
Her 2nd solo album Deep Blue of cover songs was recorded and released in the audiophile market in 2008 under Harmony Records in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.
Her 3rd album was recorded in June 2020 and is scheduled to be released sometime in October, also in the audiophile market by Harmony Records, a sister label of Groove Note both on vinyl LP and SACD in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.
Musicals
Having always had a love for musicals, she was elated and honoured to have been involved in the magical-musical ‘Magic of Love’ which premiered at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in September 2001 playing a singer and later the owner of the cabaret ‘Lily’ and also, by Singapore Repertory Theatres’ “Forbidden City” Season 1 & 2, directed by Stephen Clark, Dick Lee & Steven Dexter where in season 1 (2002), she played Yehenara’s sister who is the mother of Emperor Guangxu and other ensemble roles, and in the following season as part of the ensemble playing several different roles.
National Events
Skye has been invited to sing for various national events, including the prestigious National Day celebrations. In 2000, she performed several original songs at National Day’s Concert by the Bay at Marina Bay. In 2002, she recorded the original demo for Dick Lee “We Will Get There” and then performed the song with Annabelle Francis, Hetty Sarlene and Amelia Samuel at the National Day Parade in the Kallang Stadium during the Fundance segment.
In 2007, Skye travelled to New York to perform in the first inaugural Singapore Day event. The showcase in Central Park was organized to bring Singapore to overseas Singaporeans, featuring free local food and entertainment by Singaporean artists and comedians.
Radio, TV & Films
In addition to recording albums, Skye has also taken on other media projects. She recorded a song Han Lei De Wei Xiao for film “Big Road” by One Kind Theatre LLC & One Kind Pictures Pte Ltd, a National Day themed McDonald's jingle by Dick Lee in English and Mandarin on TV Channels 5 & 8 and the main jingle for FM88.3 when they changed to 88.3 Jia FM.
Overseas Performances
Skye also appeared as guest artist at The Coventry Youth Festival in July 2003 alongside well-known artists such as ‘Liberty X’ and ‘Triple 8’. In autumn of 2004, she travelled to the US and performed at the Harvest Moon Festival in Arcadia, the Dragon Roar Festival in Hollywood and the Mid-Autumn Festival in San Francisco.
